Statement on Hammonds Plains Area Wildfire
Our hearts are with everyone impacted by the wildfires in the Tantallon and Hammonds Plains area. It is a scary and difficult situation, and we recognize that there are many unknowns. We hope those fighting the fire remain safe, and appreciate their incredible commitment to protecting our community and saving as many homes as possible.
United Way Halifax encourages those who are displaced because of the fire to follow Halifax Regional Municipality on social media for updates on the fire, evacuation areas and comfort centres. HRM has ample space to support those who are currently displaced.
If you have been displaced and need support, you can dial 2-1-1 or visit 211 Nova Scotia’s website at www.ns.211.ca for information and resources.
We understand that many in our community may be moved to help by making donations. United Way Halifax is committed to bridging gaps for people living in poverty and those who are marginalized in our communities. We know from previous experience that a variety of supports and services are needed for this kind of disaster – both now and through the recovery process.
