Funding Opportunities

We provide funding to a wide range of programs and services, managing investments in each and connecting the dots between them.

Neighbourhood Kitchen Fund – Now accepting proposals

The United Way Halifax Neighbourhood Kitchen Fund, created by BMO and Medavie, will allow community organizations to renovate gathering or dining spaces, upgrade or purchase equipment, purchase dishes or dining furniture, and upgrade electrical or plumbing. The Neighbourhood Kitchen Fund was designed to help local, neighbourhood-focused organizations use good food to bring people together and build relationships, skills, connection and belonging.

This fund is for charitable, neighbourhood-focused organizations that serve marginalized people in Halifax Regional Municipality.

Before you begin writing your proposal:

Please read the RFP Guide. This guide will help you to ensure your organization meets the criteria, determine if your project can be accomplished within the timelines provided, help you decide on the size of project you will be proposing, and determine what expenses are eligible within your budget. It will also help you decide what tradespeople your project may require.

Review the RFP PDF to see what’s required in your proposal. This non-fillable PDF shows all of the questions that you will have to answer. There is no option in the online proposal framework to save and resume, so please prepare your answers in advance before submitting your proposal.

Review slides from our RFP Webinar Powerpoint. If you have questions about any of the material shared,  please email Karen Gilmore at

Using the online proposal framework, review your responses before submitting. In addition, please fill out the Budget Template 2021 and the Board Consent Form and include them in your proposal. Your proposal must be submitted by March 4 at 4 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE: if your documents are too large to attach using the proposal framework, please email them to Megan Jeffries at

Funding decisions will be communicated in early April and projects will begin in May.
