Volunteer & Engagement
There are countless ways you can dedicate your time and talent to help build a stronger community.
Pitch in and lend a helping hand or learn more about your community.
We offer a comprehensive range of volunteer and engagement experiences to help you and your colleagues become allies in poverty action. Whether you’re an individual who would like to embark on a facilitated simulation called Make the Month to better understand the hard choices faced by people experiencing poverty, or an organization hoping to do some hands-on volunteering at a local community organization, there’s an opportunity for everyone to get involved.
Check out our Engagement Experience Offerings, which include pricing. If you’re interested in booking an experience or learning more, reach out to Peter Ordinelli, Donor and Community Engagement Officer at pordinelli@unitedwayhalifax.ca.
Day of Caring
Employer-supported volunteer efforts are becoming more common all the time. One of the many benefits of partnering with United Way is that we can provide meaningful ways for your colleagues or employees to give back.
Day of Caring is a signature offering for United Way Halifax’s corporate partners. We match teams of volunteers with hands-on projects in their communities. There is a wide range of projects, depending on the needs of the participating local community organizations. From landscaping to preparing and serving meals, the one thing we know for sure is that you’ll be having fun while doing good.

Make the Month
We facilitate a unique digital story-telling experience fostering empathy and increased awareness of key issues many people are facing in Halifax right now. Participants can experience the real-life scenarios of what it’s like to live on a limited income, review difficult decisions and see the resulting impacts of their choices during the session. This can be completed virtually, in person or as a hybrid blend of the two.

Heartfelt Connections
United Way Halifax organizes impactful team-building activities to support staff group bonding and maximize the impact of fulfilling corporate social responsibility by filling gaps and helping in meaningful ways. Some examples include putting together culturally diverse food baskets, writing handwritten thank-you cards for staff working in grassroots local charities and building winter-warming kits for those in need amid cold weather.
