Meet Dave

On his journey through life, Dave has seen high highs, and low lows. As one of the only Indigenous people in his hometown, he had a difficult upbringing. As an adult, he struggled with addiction, found it tough to find consistent work, and experienced challenges with his family.

With help from a United Way donor-funded organization, the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre, Dave received guidance that would lead him on a bright path. He pursued post-secondary education in steam fitting and welding, which paved the way for a successful career in the shipbuilding industry. Over time, he worked his way up to Vice President of his union and built a great life for his family.

Dave Ladouceur, Mi'kmaw Native Friendship CentreHe is also an accomplished activist for Indigenous people and has been a Board member for the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre since 2018. Dave just finished a contract as a Mi’kmaw Liaison Officer for Nova Scotia Power and looks forward to continuing his advocacy in the future.

“Never forgetting the kindness shown to me, I’m pleased to give back to our community by helping to open doors.”
