2022 Local Love Award Winners

That’s a wrap for awards season at United Way Halifax! Since 2019, we’ve been honouring the efforts of our most dedicated workplace campaigns through our Local Love Awards.

Each of our most recent Local Love Award winners brought something unique to their United Way employee giving campaigns or put in that extra effort deserving of recognition.

Here’s a recap of our 2022 Local Love Award winners:

The Best Kick-Off goes to the team at Events East!

We’ve had the pleasure of working with the Events East team on a variety of initiatives over the past year including Tampon Tuesday, our Annual General Meeting, and our United by Song event. But the one effort that really stood out to us was the creativity and heart the Events East team put into their United Way campaign kick-off event. They had lots of attendees, some really impactful speeches, and even a surprise musical performance by campaign co-chairs, Chris and Susanne, who belted out their version of “Help United Way” to the tune of Sonny and Cher’s “I Got You Babe” (yes there were costumes).

Costco takes the well-deserved ‘All-In’ Award!

We’ve always been impressed with the employees at our local Costco stores and their support of United Way. They consistently have one of the highest participation rates among United Way’s partners. And this year, they truly went “all in” thanks to their executive team’s support and their in-store United Way champions. Almost every Costco employee supported their campaign this year, knowing that the need for support in our community was growing.

The team at Stewart McKelvey have a passion for helping to meet community needs, in all sorts of ways. They put thought and effort into their fundraising efforts each year, mobilizing their staff across Atlantic Canada to give back to their local communities through United Way.  

In addition to their financial support, they also provided United Way Halifax with pro-bono legal services to help us meet emerging needs and they donated computer monitors that we distributed to charitable partners all over HRM.

The ‘Double the Impact’ award goes to Intact!

Intact Insurance matches every dollar donated by their compassionate staff team. Not only does this motivate staff to give, knowing their organization is behind them, but it doubles the impact that Intact and their staff team are having on their local community.  

Intact offers United Way Halifax the flexibility and trust to invest their corporate match donation into the areas of greatest need in our local community. This allows us to be nimble and use their donation to fill gaps and most importantly, make the greatest impact.
