Halifax Affordable Housing Community Land Trust

A Community Land Trust is a potential solution to support long-term affordable housing in a sustainable and equitable way. United Way Halifax is engaged in a project to look at how a CLT could work in Halifax Regional Municipality.

About this project

The HRM Community Land Trust is a collaborative initiative aimed at addressing the affordable housing crisis in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). This project is spearheaded by United Way Maritimes and supported by various partners. The primary mission of the HRM CLT is to provide safe, appropriate, and permanently affordable non-market housing for low-income residents.

The HRM Community Land Trust will develop a model that reflects the interests and needs of community. To support this goal and achieve financial sustainability, the HRM CLT will pursue housing opportunities that will lead to a mixed-income model.

CLT Advisory Committee

The CLT Advisory Committee is made up of volunteers from with diverse experience, skills and backgrounds. Members are appointed for two-year terms and are approved by United Way Maritimes’ Board of Directors.
