United Way Maritimes 2024-25
Volunteering and engagement

As we navigated this first year of unification, engaging with local volunteers remained a priority. Thanks to the time, energy and generosity of our volunteers, we were able to stay grounded in our local communities.
In the 2024-25 fiscal year, we connected with over 260 individuals who contributed over 835 hours to volunteer projects across the Maritimes. They worked to support events like Day of Caring engagements at Blooming House in PEI, and Parker Street and The Old School Community Gathering place in Nova Scotia. They made Soupfest a success, and participated in activities like assembling hundreds of warming kits, delivering menstrual products, and rebuilding a home destroyed by the 2023 wildfires.
Their support lightened the load on funded partners by providing hands-on fixes to meet accessibility needs of program participants, and by providing deep cleaning and gardening skills. Volunteers also ensured our events and programming were delivered at a consistently high level, directly impacting and improving the success of fundraising outcomes, and increasing our effectiveness and impact on the initiatives we fund.
Volunteer engagement also helps us build long-term relationships. Many volunteers come back year after year. This year, volunteers came from a wide range of sectors, including legal firms, financial institutions, government bodies and community organizations. This expanding network reflects the shared commitment to making a difference across the Maritimes. We’re excited to nurture and grow these valuable relationships in the years ahead.

“For over 10 years, I’ve been proud to volunteer with and support United Way, and in that time I’ve seen how its work truly transforms our community. I believe in its whole-of-community approach, the accountability it brings to the agencies it funds, and the innovation and partnerships it inspires. Giving my time and resources to United Way is my way of helping lift people up and create lasting change.” – Linda MacDonald, Community Investment Advisory Committee member
