Support, care and inclusion in Halifax
Every morning, Club Inclusion opens its doors to a community where people with disabilities are not just welcomed – they’re celebrated.
Owned and operated by The Prescott Group, Club Inclusion (or The Club) offers a variety of daily programs, activities, and events designed to create spaces in our community for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs). Their goal is to reduce social isolation by providing affordable and accessible recreational opportunities, building social connections and peer support.
Affordable and accessible programming
For many families, finding inclusive, affordable, and enriching programs for loved ones with IDDs feels nearly impossible. That’s where The Club steps in. They offer trusted respite support for caregivers, allowing them to stay employed while knowing their loved ones are well cared for.
The Club has grown into a vibrant and essential part of the community. Their drop-in program offers a wide range of services, activities, and opportunities for its participants and their families. Some of the most popular include their cooking programs, which promote nutrition and skill development. It also teaches participants how to manage grocery lists on a budget. Club members also love frequent community engagements and outings, which give them free access to events like Thunderbirds lacrosse games or the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. These outings enable participants to connect with their community and enjoy memorable experiences with friends.
Support in times of change
Katrina began attending The Club’s drop-in program in early 2025 during a time of great change. Katrina’s father, her primary caregiver, passed away. She and her sister Brittany were navigating a significant transition. Brittany stepped into the role of primary caregiver and was looking for a supportive environment where Katrina could thrive, connect with others, and build a community.
Joining The Club quickly became one of the most positive changes in Katrina’s life. She looks forward to every visit, knowing that each day brings something new and exciting. Whether it’s a creative arts and crafts session, a lively dance party, or sharing meals at Supper Club, Katrina finds joy and fulfillment in the variety of activities.
“I like volleyball, art, swimming, and dancing,” Katrina shares with a bright smile. She especially enjoys taking part in Paint Night, which takes place monthly on Tuesday evenings: “I enjoy painting because it’s fun. My favorite thing to paint is animals.”
Now also a member of the day program, Katrina is thriving. She’s made close friendships, discovered new interests, and gained confidence through meaningful social interactions. Being a part of an inclusive community has shown a remarkable transformation in her independence, communication, and sense of self.
As she looks ahead to summer, she’s excited to continue taking part in her favourite activities with her friends and experience new opportunities like summer camp. Thanks to the generosity of donors, Katrina’s story has become a beautiful example of how connection, support, and community can spark incredible growth.
