Tolulope and her family have been a part of the Saint George’s YouthNet programs for many years.
When she turned six, Tolulope followed in the footsteps of her older brother and sister, participating in the Saint George’s YouthNet – a home away from home for kids from the Uniacke Square neighbourhood of Halifax’s North End.
YouthNet’s goal is to help children and teens discover their talents, gain self-confidence, and learn to dream of a bright future. “It’s not an ordinary after school program – there’s a lot of dancing and a lot of music, and I mean a lot! We play games, there’s tutoring, cooking, swimming, art,” says Tolulope. Field trips, camping excursions and an entrepreneurship camp have all been part of the YouthNet’s program this year.
YouthNet describes their program as a place of friends and mentors, and of fun and challenge – a description that seems to mirror Tolulope’s experience in the program.
The leaders always want us to work hard and participate in everything.
Together, we are possibility.
