United Way Halifax announced as a Canadian Nonprofit Employer of Choice
United Way Halifax has been recognized by Hilborn Charity eNews and CCEOC Inc. with a Canadian Nonprofit Employer of Choice Award. We are delighted to be recognized as one of 12 nonprofits across Canada and the sole award winner here in Atlantic Canada.
Over the past few years, United Way Halifax has made a deliberate effort to become known as a great place to work. We wanted to ensure we were providing a supportive and flexible work environment filled with opportunity, care, and laughter. These efforts have always been guided by our values of respect, trust, collaboration, adaptability, equity, and compassion, and also connect to one of our strategic focuses: operational excellence.
Our vision for our organization is to be the employer, charity, and partner of choice for everyone who wants to create local social change. We aim to inspire possibility inside and outside our organization.
Award criteria
This award measures a nonprofit’s leadership attributes, human resources practices, and employee perceptions. To qualify, United Way Halifax submitted an organizational profile that outlined how we communicate internally, ensure strong employee engagement, demonstrate trust and respect, and aim to go above and beyond every day. In addition, all staff participated in an anonymous employee survey to seek individual feedback on their experience of United Way Halifax as an employer.
Opportunity in the nonprofit sector
In leading our human resource and recruiting efforts I am often asked “what do you enjoy most about working at United Way Halifax?” I always have the great honour of answering with, “the people.” Our staff are passionate, dedicated, hard-working, and caring individuals and I believe this to be consistent with the nonprofit sector in general. This Nonprofit Employer of Choice award reflects the United Way Halifax’s staff contribution to our organization and culture.
There is tremendous opportunity and potential for leadership opportunities in the nonprofit sector. We need skilled, innovative, and compassionate staff to tackle the big questions, challenges, and opportunities facing our communities and organizations.
Any future job opportunities with United Way Halifax will always be posted here on our Careers page, as well as on our social media channels.
