Reporting to the Director, Revenue Development & Donor Engagement, the Business Development Officer will develop, secure, and grow new organizational relationships. This individual will maximize revenue growth by securing significant gifts from corporate partners, government agencies, and philanthropic foundations. In this role, you will:

  • Develop and grow new and meaningful relationships with various organizational leaders, influencers, and stakeholders.
  • Through learning and deep understanding, effectively communicate the role and work of United Way Halifax in addressing issues of poverty, housing and homelessness, and inclusion.
  • Secure new investment opportunities by developing funding proposals, connecting donor interest to areas of need and focus, and supporting asks for funds.
  • Work cross-departmentally with United Way Halifax colleagues to provide appropriate support and value to partners, donors, and volunteers.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records to track success and business activity, and support donor and community reporting.

Our ideal candidate is an exceptional relationship builder and communicator with the confidence and ability to drive results and generate impact. They are a creative thinker who can make clear connections between donor interests and community needs and possess the project management and organizational skills to translate ideas to action. They are also excited to learn, grow, and contribute to a collaborative and passionate team.

Ideal experience, skills and competencies include at least three-years of progressive business development, professional sales, fundraising or relationship-focused work experience along with a keen attention to detail and extensive experience working with Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of the challenges faced by small businesses as well as businesses owned by Black and Indigenous peoples considered an asset.
