What We Do
Since 1925, United Way in the Halifax Region has been committed to our community. It was originally named the Community Chest and although the name changed over the years, the original mission to work with the community and support people has virtually remained the same.
Money is raised primarily through workplace donations and through individual and corporate contributions. Funds are distributed to agencies after rigourous and thorough review of applications.
United Way also supports neighbourhood building initiatives through Action for Neighbourhood Change and is committed to helping Nova Scotians find the help they need through implementation of 211, a social support line, that will improve access to services that exist.
United Way improves social well being by bringing people and organizations together to build vibrant neighbourhoods and strengthen our community.
