The Province of Nova Scotia made a commitment to support 211 Nova Scotia in the March, 2011 Provincial Budget. When operational, 211 is a number all citizens will be able to call to find social, health, community or government services in their Nova Scotia community.   

This announcement was followed by a series of critical steps to move towards launch of the service. The first Executive Director was hired in August. Mike Myette, previously director of 911, began planning the implementation timeline while Chuck Hartlen, 211 NS Board Chair recruited volunteers to serve on the board of directors.
