Gift of Giving

Each December, communications professionals from IABC Maritimes have the opportunity to help some of our agencies through an event called Gift of Giving. This year we have 10 agencies bringing their top two communications challenges to the group. 

The event brings public relations students and professionals together to help brainstorm about the agencies' challenges and offer advice. Often there are opportunites for students and professionals to volunteer their time with the agency. 

Thank you to the professionals and students who are able to give our agencies helpful advice. For a not-for-profit, this can be a huge time and money saving opportunity - meaning resources can instead go to the programs that affect so many people in our community.

Community leaders gathered September 24 to launch the 2012 Annual Campaign for United Way Halifax. Campaign Co-Chairs, Kim Mason, RBC Regional President, Atlantic Provinces and John Rogers, Q.C. Chief Executive Officer of Stewart McKelvey, revealed the goal before an audience of United Way’s Pacesetters. This group committed to running a campaign, matching employee giving or contributing a corporate gift in advance of the Annual Campaign Kickoff.

For those who have RSVP-ed to our 3rd Annual Pacesetter Breakfast on Monday, please note that the location of the breakfast is at CFB Halifax, at Stadacona off Gottingen Street in the Wardroom Building.

Making Vital Connections

 We live in a vibrant community, and it’s people across our region who make this a great place to live. Yet in every city, there’s a line that separates “have” and “have-not.” As citizens, we are all responsible for altering the line that divides.

United Way is working to reshape that line so it can encircle and connect us. We focus on unity, not disparity. We see opportunity rather than need. And we link people and support, so vital connections can be made.

United Way Halifax is dedicated to improving lives and changing social conditions. For more than 85 years, it has been a reliable, efficient, trusted community-change agent. With your support, we’ve helped many — seniors, newcomers, young people, parents, your neighbours, co-workers, students, clients, customers. All these individuals have the courage to change their own lives for the better. You may not know the names of everyone benefiting from support, but we can all share in the responsibility of making life better for others.

United Way Halifax Deepens Community Impact
 
(Halifax NS) United Way Halifax is focusing on changing poverty to possibility and supporting healthy and active living to make a significant difference in the Halifax community.  Volunteers and staff have spent the past two years researching and reviewing the most pressing issues facing our community and adopting strategies to meet these two challenges. Many volunteers from all corners and sectors of our community along with funded agency representatives have been part of this deliberate and thoughtful change.
