I’m honored to have been asked to share a few words about the Newsletter Project and our freshly-inked funding arrangement with the United Way of Halifax district.

A little background: Ten years ago, visionary youth advocate Andrew Safer developed a program to help youth in government care in Halifax develop better literacy and emotional coping skills. He realized many young people actually were able to express themselves more completely through journal writing than through verbal communication. Though their writing may not have been polished or sophisticated, it was always direct, insightful and from their heart.
