Charitable Bequests: Further Reading
Make a Difference in the Lives that Follow
The most popular planned gift is the charitable bequest, which is an opportunity for you to leave a lasting legacy to your community through United Way of Halifax Region. Whether you are writing a new Will or updating an old one, it is easy to include United Way of Halifax Region and leave a legacy to your community. Once you are satisfied that your loved ones are taken care of, you may want to consider making a charitable bequest to strengthen the community which you have helped to build.
Your bequest can take the form of a specific amount, a designated asset or a percentage of your estate. Through this method of planned giving, you are in control of the gifting process and preserve full use of your property. You can also change the provisions at any time. While bequests offer no immediate income tax benefits, by making a significant charitable bequest, your estate can claim a tax receipt of up to 100% of net income in the year of death, with any excess carried back to the previous year.
